A Society Imperfect

Fiction Social Commentary Standalone Novel
A perfect society sounds wonderful—right up until someone has to decide what perfection means.

Every society has ideals. The trouble begins when people try to enforce them.

A Society Imperfect examines the distance between the way a society describes itself and the way its people actually experience it.

Rules promise fairness. Institutions promise order. Traditions promise stability. Individuals promise themselves that the flaws they see are temporary exceptions rather than evidence of something deeper.

But no social system exists apart from the people who create, administer, defend, resist, benefit from, and suffer under it. The closer anyone looks, the harder it becomes to separate society’s stated principles from the compromises required to maintain them.

Questions of class, power, identity, belonging, opportunity, responsibility, and hypocrisy begin colliding with the comforting idea that good intentions are enough to produce good outcomes.

An imperfect society is easy to condemn. The difficult question is how much of its imperfection its citizens are willing to call normal.

A Society Imperfect is a socially observant novel about the systems people inherit, the contradictions they tolerate, and the uneasy truth that societies are often most revealing not in the ideals they celebrate, but in the imperfections they learn to live with.
