Curtis James is a janitor at Nexus Tech, a powerful technology company working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, security, and institutional power. When Curtis discovers that something valuable has disappeared from inside the company, the discovery puts him in the path of people who have far more to lose than a piece of hardware.

His death leaves Maya James with questions the official explanation cannot answer. Fresh out of the police academy and carrying a complicated history of her own, Maya begins following the evidence outside the boundaries of the case she has been given.

What begins as an investigation into Curtis's death expands into the theft of MOSAIC Core Build 6.4, a covert deployment known as Project Lantern, competing institutional interests, and a network of people whose relationships matter almost as much as their actions.
