Plantation

Historical Fiction Social Commentary American History
History remembers institutions in broad strokes. Human beings experienced them one life, one family, and one consequence at a time.

History becomes different when viewed through the people forced to live inside it.

Plantation turns its attention toward the human reality behind one of the most consequential institutions in American history.

A plantation was never merely land, crops, buildings, economics, or property. It was a social structure built around power and enforced through law, violence, custom, dependence, race, inheritance, and generations of human lives.

Within that structure, people developed families, loyalties, strategies, fears, ambitions, relationships, and methods of survival while living under conditions designed to deny them control over the most basic dimensions of their own existence.

Those holding power also inherited assumptions about status, ownership, race, obligation, entitlement, and social order that became easier to defend the longer the institution existed.

History can make an institution sound inevitable. It never felt inevitable to the people whose lives were trapped inside it.

The novel approaches the past through people rather than abstraction, examining how systems acquire permanence when economic interest, law, social expectation, and personal identity all become invested in keeping them alive.

Plantation is historical fiction about power, bondage, family, race, survival, inheritance, and the deeply personal consequences hidden inside the language of historical institutions.
